Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of early application of hydrocolloid dressings for preventing phlebitis in patients with PICC.Methods A total of 62 cancer patients with PICC in our hospital between January 2014 and November 201 5 were chosen and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, each of 31.The observation group was given hydrocolloid dressings of 10cm×10cm after placing PICC,5 to 6cm above the insertion site and parallel to the venepuncture. The hydrocolloid dressing was replaced once a week. The control group was given a 1 1cm× 12cm transparent dressing and replaced at the same frequency. Both groups were given routine nursing for patients with PICC.Then the incidence of mechanical phlebitis was observed. Results In the observation group,1 mechanical phlebitis of class I was observed in the observation group, accounting for an incidence was 3.23%.However,7 patients were found of mechanical phlebitis (including 5 of class I and 2 of class II)in the control group, with an incidence of 22.58%. Therefore, the incidence of mechanical phlebitis in the observation group were significantly lower than that in the control group. Conclusions The early application of hydrocolloid dressings can be effective in preventing mechanical phlebitis induced by PICC.
