The effect of cervical ripening balloon in term pregnancy

Abstract：Objective To study the effect of cervical ripening balloon in term pregnancy. Methods A total of 1 60 pregnant women admitted in our hospital between January 201 5 and January 201 6 to terminate pregnancy at 37 weeks or later were divided into an observation group and a control group according to a random number table,each of 80.The control group was injected oxytocin to provoke cervical ripening,while the observation group was treated using cervical ripening balloon. The pregnancy outcome,maternal satisfaction,delivery pain,postpartum hemorrhage and neonatal Apgar score were compared between the 2 groups.Results Compared with the control group,sig-nificantly more pregnant women in the observation group chose the vaginal delivery (χ2 =7.61 9,P =0.006),with higher satisfaction(Z =-2.575,P =0.010).No significant differences were found in the other measurements between the above groups.Conclusion Cervical ripening balloon can be used to promote cervical ripening and labor,significantly improving birth outcomes,shortening labor time,and reducing the amount of postpartum bleeding.
