Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical effect of preventing catheter related bloodstream infection using PDCA nursing model. Methods Totally 360 patients to receive indwelling central venous catheter between September 2014 to 201 5 in EICU were randomly divided into an observation group (n =180)given nursing based on PDCA model and a control group (n = 180)receiving con-ventional care. The infection, hospital stay and cost,as well as patient satisfaction were compared between the 2 groups. Results Five bloodstream infections were found in the control group caused by 4 kinds of pathogenic bacteria, but only 2 infections were observed in the observation group caused by 2 kinds of bacteria. The infection rate of the observation group, together with the hospital stay and cost, was significantly lower than those of the control group, while the satisfaction of the former was significantly higher than the latter. Conclusion PDCA program can effectively avoid the nursing risks, improve the compliance of health staff, and correct patients'bad behavior,so as to lower catheter related bloodstream infection, improve nursing quality and create a harmonious doc-tor-patient relationship.
