Relationship among uncertainty in i llness,information demand and coping style in patients with ovarian cancer

Abstract:[Abstract ] Objective To explore the relationship among the uncertainty in illness, information demand and coping style in patients with ovarian cancer.Methods Totally 62 patients with ovarian cancer were investigated using Mishel uncertainty in illness scale (MUIS),information preference question for cancer patients (IPQCP)and simplified coping style questionnaire (SCSQ). Results The total score of MUIS was (101.24 ± 12.83),with 91.94% patients at the middle or high level.The total score of IPQCP was (40.45±8.05),with the score of the positive coping style of (1.49 ± 0.43 )and negative coping style of (2.01 ± 0.70 ).Information demand and negative coping style were positively related to uncertainty in illness (r =0.432,r =0.41 1),positive coping style was negatively related to the uncertainty in illness (r =-0.406).Conclusion Patients with ovarian cancer is of high level in uncertainty in illness and can be relieved by meeting the patients′information demand and improving their coping style.
