Preventing digestive implications for ICU patients with enteral nutrition using cluster intervention strategies

Abstract:Objective To explore the prevention of digestive complications for ICU patientswith enteral nutrition .Methods Totally 90 ICU patients with enteral tube feeding were randomlydivided into a cluster group and a control group ,each of 45 ,according to a random number table .The cluster group was given cluster nursing intervention ,while the control group was provided withroutine nursing care . After 4 weeks of intervention , the gastrointestinal complications , serumdiamine oxidase concentration ,intestinal dysfunction score ,as well as acute physiology and chronichealth state evaluation score Ⅱ (APACHE II) of the two groups were compared . Results Theoccurrence rate of gastrointestinal complications of the cluster group was 6 .6% ,significantly lower than that of the control group ,26 .6% .Moreover ,all the other measurements of the cluster groupwere significantly lower than the latter .Conclusion The cluster nursing intervention during theICU enteral nutrition period ,can significantly reduce patients′ gastrointestinal complications andimprove their intestinal functions .
