The correlation between hope and uncertainty in illness among elderly pa-tients with chronic heart failure

Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between hope and uncertainty in illness among elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) .Methods Totally 130 elderly patients with CHF were investigated using herth hope index (HHI) and mishel uncertainty in illness scale (MUIS) .Results The total score of HHI was 30 .16 ± 5 .62 ,and 85 .38% of the patients showed a middle or low level .The score of M UIS was 104 .15 ± 12 .53 ,and 88 .46% of the patients showed a middle or high level . Pearson correlation analysis showed uncertainty in illness was negatively related to hope (r = - 0 .461 ,P < 0 .01) .Conclusion Hope of most elderly patients with CHF are at a middle or low level ,nurses should improve it by alleviate uncertainty in illness of the patients .
