The effect of depression nursing intervention on subjective well-being for COPD patients

Abstract:Objective To study the influence of the depression nursing intervention on subjective well-being for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients .Methods Eighty COPD patients treated in our hospital during March 2012 to March 2015 were selected and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group according to arrival time ,40 patients in each group .Patients in the experimental group were cared following the depression nursing intervention model formulated in this study ,while those in the control group were given health education and routine clinical psychological care .During the study ,patients in both groups were given routine treatment and care for COPD .Before and after intervention ,the depression self rating scale (SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and general well-being (GWB) scale were employed to assess patients'psychological state respectively .Results The anxiety and depression scores of patients in the experimental group were significantly lower than that in the control group (t= 7 .001 , P=0 .009 ,t=5 .928 ,P=0 .017) ,and the number of patients with anxiety and depression was also less than that in the control group (χ2 = 6 .67 ,P= 0 .006 ,χ2 = 19 .29 ,P= 0 .001 ) . Moreover , the subjective well-being score of patients in the experimental group was than that in the control group after intervention (t=19 .145 ,P=0 .000) ,and the scores of all dimensions except that of dimension were significant higher than that in the control group ,with significantly more people of high GWB score (χ2 = 42 .29 ,P= 0 .000) .Conclusion The depression nursing intervention can effectively relieve the anxiety and depression and promote the well-being of patients with COPD ,which provides a feasible and effective method for COPD patients'clinical psychological care .
