Abstract:Objective To investigate the uncertainty in illness and quality of life among patients with Meniere′s disease (MD)and analyze their correlation.Method A total of 140 MD patients were selected and given a cross-section survey using the Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS)and Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36 ).Results The average MUIS score of MD patients was 1 18.52±1 5.1 5.The average total score and that of all dimensions of SF-36 were significantly lower than those of the normal standard. The average scores of all dimensions of SF-36 were significantly negatively correlated with ambiguity, complexity, lack of information and total uncertainty scores. The score of Being Unpredictable dimension had significantly low positive correlation with Energy and Social function, but no correlation with the score of other dimensions of SF-36.Conclusion There were moderate uncertainty among MD patients. And their quality of life was significantly lower than the normal person. There was significantly negative correlation between quality of life and uncertainty in illness among MD patients.
