Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationships among resilience, social support and coping style in elderly patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods Totally 204 elderly patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were investigated with a self-designed demographic questionnaire, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC ), Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS)and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ).Results The average total score of CD-RISC in elderly patients with BPH was 60.75 ± 12.47,and that of PSSS was 54.61 ± 12.40.The average score of positive coping style was 1.56±0.63,and negative coping style was 1.82±0.60. Pearson correlation analysis showed that resilience was positively related to social support and positive coping style, but negatively related to negative coping style. Conclusion Resilience among elderly patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia is low,and nursing staff should promote it through enhancing their social supports and improving their coping styles.
