Effects of nursing intervention on body images among acne patients

Abstract:Objective To assess the body image among acne patients and explore the effect of nursing intervention. Methods Total 1 18 patients with acne were randomly divided into an experimental group (n = 68 )and a control group (n = 50 ).The experimental group was given nursing intervention for 8 weeks,while the control group was not.Before and after the intervention, both groups were assessed using Self Rating Scale of Body Image (SRSBI).Results The average total SRSBI score and the scores of its eight domains including body defect feeling,countenance feeling,social communication,others′ evaluation ,countenance attention,emotional impairment, changing of countenance and inducement of body image disorder of experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group before the intervention.However,after the intervention,no significant differences were observed in the scores of the first four dimensions,but the scores of the other four dimensions between the two groups. And the total score of the experimental group was still significantly higher than that of the control group.Conclusion Nursing intervention can effectively improve the body image among acne patients. However,acne patients still have trouble with their body image.
