Clinical efficacy of pulse acupuncture and moxibustion in treating sudden deafness of liver depression and spleen deficiency type

Abstract：Objective To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of pulse acupuncture and moxibustion in the clinical treatment of sudden deafness.Methods A total of 82 patients with sudden deafness of the liver depression and spleen deficiency type admitted to the Hekou Community Health Service Center in Dongying,Shandong Province,China,from January 2022 to January 2024 were enrolled.They were randomly divided into an observation group(pulse acupuncture and moxibustion treatment,n=41)and a control group(routine acupuncture,n=41)to compare the treatment effects.Results After treatment the average hearing threshold,the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory(THI)score and hearing loss score in the observation group[(30.18±6.30)dB,23.91±4.12 and 1.19±0.28,respectively]were lower than those in the control group[(39.75±7.29)dB,28.64±4.53 and 1.57±0.36,respectively](all P<0.05).For hemorheological indices,whole blood high tangential viscosity,whole blood low tangential viscosity and plasma viscosity in the observation group[(2.98±0.55,10.31±1.60 and 1.29±0.25)mPa·s,respectively]were lower than those in the control group[(4.36±0.73,14.59±2.74 and 1.90±0.32)mPa·s,respectively](all P<0.05).The time to tinnitus relief[(9.8±1.7)d]and the time to vertigo disappearance[(6.7±1.2)d]in the observation group were both shorter than those in the control group[(12.0±2.3)d and(8.6±1.3)d,respectively](all P<0.05).Conclusion Pulse acupuncture and moxibustion is an effective therapeutic approach for patients with sudden deafness of liver depression and spleen deficiency type.
