Effect of oral Chinese herbal ice cubes combined with Chinese herbal mouthwash on pharyngeal pain after tonsillectomy

Abstract：Objective To explore the clinical effect of oral administration of self-made Chinese herbal ice cubes combined with Chinese herbal mouthwash on patients with pharyngeal pain after tonsillectomy.Methods A total of 84 patients who underwent tonsillectomy in Dongtai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from October 2021 to October 2023 were selected by simple random sampling and were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group by random number table method.Both groups received routine postoperative treatment.The control group(42 cases)received oral ice cubes made of regular drinking water combined with oral ulcer mouthwash,while the observation group(42 cases)received self-made Chinese Medicine oral ice cubes combined with Chinese Medicine mouthwash.Clinical efficacy was evaluated 7 days postoperatively,and pharyngeal pain,edema,and inflammatory cytokine levels were evaluated 1 day,3 days and 7 days postoperatively.And the situation of complications was followed up.Results After 7 days of postoperative efficacy evaluation,the total effective rate of 97.62%in the observation group was higher than the 80.95%in the control group(χ2=4.480,P=0.034).On postoperative day 1,day 3,and day 7,the VAS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.01).On postoperative day 1,day 3 and day 7,the pharyngeal edema score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group(P<0.01).The levels of inflammatory factors(h-CRP,IL-6)in the observation group were lower than those in the control group on postoperative day 1,day 3 and day 7(P<0.01).The total incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(χ2=4.487,P=0.034).Conclusion The combination of self-made Chinese Medicine oral ice cubes with Chinese Medicine mouthwash for patients undergoing tonsillectomy has significant clinical efficacy.It can not only effectively alleviate postoperative pharyngeal pain and edema,but also improve the body's inflammatory response and reduce the incidence of complications.
