Application of Gibbs Reflective Cycle emergency exercise in nurses'emergency disposal competency development with the example of postoperative bleeding from tonsil surgery

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the application effect of Gibbs Reflection Cycle emergency drill in the development of nurses'emergency treatment ability by taking postoperative tonsil bleeding as an example.Methods Twenty-four ENT nurses from a tertiary hospital in Jiangsu Province were selected as the study subjects from July to December 2024,and were randomly sampled according to the ability level stratification:the control group was given the traditional emergency drill mode,and the experimental group used the Gibbs Reflective Cycle on the basis of the traditional emergency drill for post-drill review.For comparisons,the Competency Inventory for Registered Nurse(CIRN),the Chinese version of Self-Rating Scale of Self-Directed Learning(SRSSDL),the simplified version of Objective Structured Clinical Examination(OSCE)and the Chinese version of the Self-Rating Scale of Self-Directed Learning(SRSSDL)were used to compare the core competencies,self-directed learning ability and OSCE assessment scores of nurses in the two groups.Results The total score of core competence of nurses in the experimental group(188.50±5.05)was higher than that of the control group(170.33±4.66)(P<0.05),and the scores of each dimension were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05),and the differences were statistically significant.The total score of self-directed learning ability of nurses in the experimental group(230.83±5.02)was higher than that of the control group(194.58±4.46)(P<0.05),and the scores of all dimensions were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05),and the differences were statistically significant;the score of OSCE examination for nurses in the experimental group(80.17±1.90)was higher than that of the control group(77.58±2.84),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Conducting emergency drills based on the Gibbs Reflective Cycle can effectively improve nurses'core competencies and self-directed learning abilities,and further improve nurses'emergency response abilities.
