Abstract:Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of nasal corticosteroid step-down therapy in the treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis. Methods The control group received conventional short-term treatment(2 weeks)with nasal corticosteroids(fluticasone propionate nasal spray)for perennial allergic rhinitis and then discontinued immediately, while the observation group received step-down therapy for slow discontinuation in addition to the conventional treatment. The clinical efficacy, adverse drug reactions, and recurrence rate after six months of follow-up were evaluated in both groups. Results Both the observation group and the control group showed reduced symptom scores for nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, nasal itching, and sneezing after treatment, with the scores being lower in the observation group compared to the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The total effective rate in the observation group was 95%,which was significantly higher than the control group's rate of 76.7%(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse drug reactions in the observation group(11.7%)was slightly higher than that in the control group(8.3%),but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The recurrence rate after six months of follow-up was 3.3%in the observation group, which was significantly lower than the control group's rate of 16.7%(P<0.05).Conclusion Nasal corticosteroid step-down therapy, when added to short-term treatment, can effectively improve the clinical outcomes of perennial allergic rhinitis and reduce the recurrence rate. Moreover, this treatment approach is safe and reliable. These findings support the clinical application and promotion of nasal corticosteroid step-down therapy in the management of perennial allergic rhinitis.
