Clinicopathologic characteristics and early diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract：Objective To study and analyze the clinicopathological characteristics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the key points for early diagnosis.Methods A total of 66 children and adolescents with nasopharyngeal carcinoma admitted to our hospital were selected.The time span was from January 2022 to December 2022.The clinical manifestation,pathological classification,clinical stage and early diagnosis of the patients were analyzed.Results The clinical symptoms of children and adolescents with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were basically the same as that of adults,but the incidence rate was significantly lower than that of adults.11 cases had a disease course of less than 1 month(16.67%),18 cases had a disease course of 1-3 months(27.27%),28 cases had a disease course of 4-6 months(42.42%),and 9 cases had a disease course of more than 6 months(13.64%).The clinical manifestations were as follows:27 cases were bloody mucus(40.91%),17 cases were nasal obstruction(25.75%),19 cases were headache(28.78%),14 cases were cranial nerve injury(21.21%),18 cases were tinnitus and hearing loss(27.27%),36 cases were cervical lymph node enlargement(54.54%);Of the 66 patients,9 were misdiagnosed,accounting for 13.63%.5 cases were misdiagnosed,accounting for 7.57%;All 66 patients were tested for the copy number of BE virus DNA,of which 54 were positive,accounting for 81.81%.Conclusion At present,there is not enough attention paid to nasopharyngeal carcinoma in children and adolescents.For the main clinical manifestations,such as blood discharge and neck mass,reasonable treatment should be carried out,especially for patients with multiple symptoms and manifestations at the same time,nasopharynx examination should be carried out,and the use of BE virus DNA copy number test,nasopharynx microscope examination and other methods can facilitate timely detection.
