Study on changes in olfactory function after nasal endoscopic surgery

Abstract:Objective To investigate the changes in olfactory function in patients after endoscopic sinus surgery.Method A retrospective analysis was conducted on 100 patients with functional olfactory dysfunction who underwent endoscopic surgery at the Otolaryngology Department of Xiajin County People's Hospital from July 2021 to December 2022.The changes in olfactory function and quality of life were compared before and after surgery at 3 and 6 months.Compared with the preoperative group,the olfactory VAS scores at 3 and 6 months after surgery were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05);There was no significant difference between 3 months after surgery and 6 months after surgery,P>0.05;Compared with the preoperative group,the olfactory T&T test scores at 3 and 6 months after surgery were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05);There was no significant difference between 3 months and 6 months after surgery,P>0.05.Mild impairment:postoperative olfactory improvement of 75.00%,moderate impairment,postoperative olfactory improvement of 80.00%,severe impairment,postoperative olfactory improvement of 73.85%;The quality of life scores of patients at 3 and 6 months after surgery were significantly higher than those before surgery,and there was no significant difference between 3 and 6 months after surgery(P>0.05).Conclusion Nasal endoscopic surgery for patients with functional olfactory dysfunction can effectively improve their olfactory function and improve their quality of life.
