Abstract:Objective To research the interrelation between advanced glycation end products(AGEs)and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor(VEGF)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)accompanied with hearing loss. Methods The levels of AGEs and VEGF were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)in 49 patients with T2DM with hearing loss(group A),55 patients with T2DM only(group B),and 47 healthy subjects(group C).Results Body mass index(BMI),total cholesterol(TC),and uric acid(UA)were not significantly different among three groups(P>0.05),while fasting glucose(FPG),HbA1c,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),triglycerides(TG),plasma fibrin(FIB),AGEs and VEGF showed significant differences(P<0.05).Compared with C group,FPG,HbA1c,LDL-C,TG,FIB,AGEs and VEGF significantly increased in both A and B groups(P<0.05).AGEs and VEGF increased in A group compared with B group(P<0.05).AGEs were positively correlated with FPG,LDL-C,HbA1c and duration of diabetes(P<0.05).VEGF was positively correlated with FPG,HbA1c,FIB and duration of diabetes(P<0.05).Conclusion AGEs and VEGF are related with the occurrence and development of T2DM accompanied with hearing loss.AGEs and VEGF may be used as indicators for the early diagnosis and prognosis of the condition.
