Abstract:ObjectiveOur aim was to investigate the effects of continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP)therapy on mean platelet volume(MPV)in the patient with severe obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods This study included 16 patients with severe OSAHS in our ward be-tween Jan 2012 and Jan 2014,and were given the CPAP treatment for six month. The correlation among the levels of the number of platelets (PLT),MPV,platelet distribution width(PDW)were evaluated before and after the treantment.ResultsCompared with the level before the treatment,PLT count was significantly higher after 6 months CPAP treatment[(202.2±47.5)×109/L vs.(235.8±46.2×)109/L];MPV and PDW were significantly lower after 6 months CPAP treatment[(10.9±0.8)fL vs.(10.3±0.7)fL;(13.1±1.8)%vs.(11.9±1.5)%].ConclusionMPV levels are decreased in patients with the severe OSAHS after 6 month CPAP treatment.
