Medical Humanistic Care on the 47-year Journey of in Vitro Fertilization

Abstract:This article reviews the development of assisted reproductive technology(ART)worldwide and in China over the past 47 years.Centering on"technological progress and humanistic care",it elaborates on the leap from the birth of the first test-tube baby in 1988 in China to the current establishment of a complete technical system and the realization of clinical popularization.A service network has been formed by 633 compliant medical institutions and 29 sperm banks,with over 300,000 babies born annually.Technologies such as PGT and AI embryo assessment have reached the international leading level.Meanwhile,the state strictly supervises to safeguard patients' rights and interests.The article also directly addresses technical concerns,including the health risks of ovulation induction drugs to the mother,possible defects in the offspring caused by embryo manipulation,the practical predicament of egg and sperm freezing technology,as well as ethical and legal issues such as gender selection,surrogacy controversies and legislative gaps.Finally,it should be pointed out that future technology needs to move towards"precision and personalization",always adhering to the principle of"safety first and ethics foremost".Through improving regulations and conducting follow-up visits to the offspring,technology can truly become the"light of hope"that warms millions of families.
