Investigation and Implications of the Barefoot Doctor Spirit Based on the Social Practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine University Students

Abstract:Objective To understand the current status of cognition regarding the"barefoot doctor spirit"and to provide data support and practical references for its further inheritance.Methods Based on a university student social practice program,a self-designed questionnaire was utilized,and convenience sampling method was applied to randomly distribute and collect data via the Wenjuanxing platform.Results A total of 208 individuals participated in this survey,with age and regional concentration,among whom 88.5%had heard of"barefoot doctors".Further investigation revealed that 66.3%were aware that barefoot doctors had received relatively short centralized training,57.6%believed that the diagnostic and treatment method was a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)and Western medicine.Cognition of the spiritual kernel(medically sincere heart,empathy for the suffering,protecting the underprivileged,rooted in the land)varied,with the highest recognition rate of 85.8%being rooted in the land.Furthermore,84.6%agreed that it is necessary for contemporary healthcare practitioners and medical students to inherit this spirit,and 70.5%expected to gain a deeper understanding of the barefoot doctor spirit or their stories by film and television works.Conclusion In the fields of contemporary medical humanities and healthcare practice,the barefoot doctor spirit retains perceived value among younger generations and within certain regions.
