Abstract:The traditional Chinese aesthetic thought, influenced by Confucian and Taoist philosophies, results in two major characteristics, namely the Confucianism-stimulated moral emotions and the Taoism-based philosophical understanding of life itself. Both moral emotions and the philosophical understanding of life are important significance for medical practitioners.Different from other natural sciences, medicine deals with living beings, while a prominent issue exists in contemporary medicine, that is,the inevitable neglect of life itself due to a mechanistic understanding of humans. Therefore, this article reveals the philosophical and aesthetic roots of contemporary doctor-patient relationship issues through a review of traditional Chinese aesthetic thought, along with an analysis of the essential role of Chinese aesthetics in medical education, followed by proposing approaches for integrating Chinese aesthetics into the aesthetic education of medical schools,in an aim to provide theoretical references and countermeasure suggestions for tackling the humanistic dilemmas in contemporary healthcare.
