Abstract:This study aims to examine the current status of research in the field of medical complaints, summarize the key findings and progress, and synthesize experiences from various countries to propose feasible recommendations for healthcare system improvement and relative research in China.Web of Science Core Collection and PubMed databases were selected for retrieval.118 eligible articles were included, spanning from 1983 to 2024.The literature was categorized into two themes:the current state of medical complaints and medical complaint management. The former was further divided into four subcategories:complaint rates, complaint content, complainant characteristics, and the impact of complaints on physicians. The latter was subdivided into three:current management practices, management processes, and analytical tools.Factors influencing complaint tendencies are multifaceted, including hospital departments, the characteristics of doctors, and the traits of complainants.Relevant authorities should make full use of technology to optimize complaint procedures and feedback mechanisms, enhance training, and address the negative psychological impact of medical complaints on physicians.Meanwhile, researchers should broaden the scope and methodologies of domestic studies to enrich this field.
