Clinical evaluation of butylphthalide combined with galantamine in the treatment of vascular dementia

Abstract：Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of butylphthalide combined with galantamine in the treatment of vascular dementia(VD).Methods A total of 128 VD patients admitted to Hai'an People's Hospital from October 2023 to April 2025 were selected and randomly divided into a control group(receiving basic intervention plus galantamine treatment)and an intervention group(receiving basic intervention plus butylphthalide and galantamine treatment)using a random number table,with 64 patients in each group.During the study,16 patients dropped out,resulting in a final completion of 56 cases in both the observation group and the control group.The efficacy,hemorheological indicators,activities of daily living,cognitive function,and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate in the observation group was 85.71%(48/56),higher than that in the control group(69.64%(39/56))(χ2=4.171,P<0.05).The observation group showed higher scores on the Hasegawa Dementia Scale,Mini-Mental State Examination,and modified Barthel Index compared to the control group((25.01±3.14)vs(21.22±3.25),(21.07±4.52)vs(19.13±4.38),(62.52±3.13)vs(56.77±3.27),t=6.276,2.307,9.506,all P<0.05).The levels of high-shear whole blood viscosity,low-shear whole blood viscosity,and plasma viscosity in the observation group were lower than those in the control group((4.66±0.54)mPa/s vs(5.12±0.41)mPa/s,(7.17±1.83)mPa/s vs(8.78±1.77)mPa/s,and(1.42±0.12)mPa/s vs(1.61±0.15)mPa/s,respectively,t=-5.077,-4.732,-7.402,all P<0.05).The incidence rates of adverse reactions were 16.07%(9/56)in observation group and 10.71%(6/56)in the control group,and there was no statistical-ly significant difference(χ2=0.693,P>0.05).Conclusion The combination of butylphthalide and galantamine can significantly improve cognitive function,daily living ability,and hemorheological indicators in VD patients,without increasing the risk of ad-verse reactions,demonstrating a good safety profile.
