Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of human epidermal growth factor(EGF)combined with medical radiation protective spray in the treatment of radiodermatitis following breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer. Methods A total of 80 breast cancer patients who developed radiodermatitis during radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery at Jiangsu Province(Suqian)Hospital(Suqian First Hospital)between June 2021 and December 2023 were includ-ed in this retrospective analysis.Based on the actual medication regimen received, patients were divided into the growth factor group(36 cases)and the conventional treatment group(44 cases). The conventional treatment group received stan-dard adjuvant radiotherapy combined with medical radiation protective spray, while the growth factor group received the conventional treatment group's regimen plus topical human EGF.Both groups were treated continuously for 6 weeks. The total effective rate,Radiation Skin Injury Assessment Scale(RSIAS)scores,Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS)scores, levels of interleukin-6(IL-6)and serum EGF,and treatment interruption time were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate in the growth factor group was 86.11%(31/36),significantly higher than that in the conven-tional treatment group(47.73%(21/44)),with a statistically significant difference(χ2=12.823,P<0.05).After treatment, the RSIAS score in the growth factor group((4.20±1.50)points)was lower than that in the conventional treatment group((6.10±2.20)points),and both groups were significant lower than pre-treatment levels(the growth factor group:(10.66±2.65)points;the conventional treatment group:(10.57±2.21)points),with statistically significant differences(t=4.409,12.729,9.508,all P<0.05).The KPS score in the growth factor group((83.41±6.20)points)was higher than that in the conventional treatment group((78.50±5.98)points),and both groups were higher than pre-treatment levels(the growth factor group:(69.50±2.66)points;the conventional treatment group:(68.32±3.98)points),with statistically significant differences(t=3.594,12.371,9.400,all P<0.05).The IL-6 level in the growth factor group((1.91±0.26)ng/L)was lower than that in the conventional treatment group((2.13±0.27)ng/L),and both groups were lower than pre-treatment levels(the growth factor group:(3.53±0.47)ng/L;the con-ventional treatment group:(3.41±0.67)ng/L),with statistically significant differences(t=3.686,18.096,11.754,all P<0.05).The serum EGF level in the growth factor group((1 458.26±39.26)pg/mL)was higher than that in the conventional treatment group((1 277.96±34.54)pg/mL),and both groups were higher than pre-treatment levels(the growth factor group:(809.23±34.75)pg/mL;the conventional treatment group:(808.66±39.01)pg/mL),with statistically significant differences(t=21.841,74.274,59.746,all P<0.05).The treatment interruption time in the growth factor group((3.53±0.38)days)was shorter than that in the conventional treatment group((5.41±0.88)days),and the difference was statistically significant(t=11.930,P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of human EGF and medical radiation protective spray can effectively improve the therapeutic outcome for radiodermatitis after breast-conserving surgery in breast cancer patients, regulate inflammatory factor levels,pro-mote skin repair, and improve patients'quality of life.
