Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of edaravone on headache symptoms and neurological function re-covery in patients after embolization of cerebral aneurysms. Methods A total of 340 patients with cerebral aneurysms who un-derwent endovascular embolization therapy at the Affiliated Huai'an No.1 People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2021 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.Based on different treatment protocols, the patients were divided into two groups:the edaravone group(receiving standard postoperative treatment plus edaravone,n=79)and the conventional treatment group(receiving standard postoperative treatment alone,n=261).The Visual Analog Scale(VAS)scores, incidence of cerebral vasospasm, modified Rankin Scale(mRS)scores,National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)scores, and adverse drug reactions were compared between the edaravone group and the conventional treatment group. Results After 1 d,3 d,and 7 d of treatment, the VAS scores of the edaravone group((4.30±1.20)points,(3.98±1.10)points,(2.70±0.85)points,respectively)were significantly lower than those of the conventional treatment group((5.42±1.50)points,(4.88±1.30)points,(3.62±1.20)points,respectively).The significant time effect(F=265.785,P<0.001),group effect(F=12.714,P<0.001),and time-by-group interaction effect(F=10.558,P<0.001)were observed. The VAS scores in the edaravone group were significantly lower than those in the conventional treatment group after 1 d,3 d,and 7 d of treatment(t=﹣6.072,﹣5.577,﹣6.346,all P<0.05).The incidence of cerebral vasospasm in the edaravone group was 6.33%(5/79),lower than 19.92%(52/261)in the convention-al treatment group, with a statistically significant difference(χ2=8.032,P<0.05).After 7 days of treatment, the NIHSS score in the edaravone group((10.30±1.95)points)was significantly lower than that in the conventional treatment group((12.25±2.40)points)(t=6.591,P<0.05).At 30 days post-treatment,the mRS score in the edaravone group((1.24±0.36)points)was significantly lower than that in the conventional treatment group((1.78±0.61)points)(t=﹣7.479,P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions was 12.66%(10/79)in the edaravone group and 7.28%(19/261)in the conventional treatment group, with no statistically significant difference(χ2=2.249,P>0.05).Conclusion Edaravone can effectively alleviate headache, reduce the risk of cerebral vasospasm, and promote the recovery of neurological function in patients after embolization of cerebral aneurysms, with a favorable safety profile.
