Efficacy of Xiangju capsule in children with allergic rhinitis and adenoid hypertrophy

Abstract：Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Xiangju capsule in the treatment of allergic rhinitis(AR)complicated with adenoid hypertrophy(AH)in children.Methods A total of 112 children with AR complicated with AH treat-ed at Tonglu County Second People's Hospital from June 2024 to April 2025 were retrospectively selected and divided into the control group(56 cases,treated with mometasone furoate nasal spray plus loratadine)and the observation group(56 cases,treated with mometasone furoate nasal spray plus Xiangju capsule)according to different treatment methods.Both the control group and the observation group received treatment for 2 months.The clinical efficacy,sleep quality score,degree of nasal mucosal edema(Lund-Kennedy Scale score),levels of nasal mucosal inflammatory indicators(interleukin-6(IL-6),interferon-gamma(IFN-γ),total immunoglobulin E(TIgE)),and adverse reactions were compared between the control group and the observation group.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 92.86%(52/56),higher than that of the control group(78.57%(44/56)),and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=4.667,P<0.05).After treatment,the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire and Lund-Kennedy Scale scores decreased in the control group and the observation group,and the scores in the observation group((3.81±1.07)points and(6.41±0.96)points,respectively)were lower than those in the control group((5.23±1.46)points and(7.13±1.14)points,respectively).The differences were statistically significant(t=5.871,3.615,both P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of IL-6 and TIgE decreased in the control group and the observation group,and the above indicators in the observation group((6.52±1.36)ng/mL and(51.34±5.24)kU/L,respectively)were lower than those in the control group((9.66±1.42)ng/mL and(64.67±5.73)kU/L,respectively).The differences were statistically significant(t=11.951,12.847,both P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of IFN-γ increased in the control group and the observation group,and the level in the observation group((27.97±5.22)ng/mL)was higher than that in the control group((24.12±4.33)ng/mL).The difference was statistically significant(t=4.248,P<0.05).The total incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was 10.71%(6/56),and that in the control group was 14.29%(8/56).The difference was not statistically significant(χ2=0.327,P>0.05).Conclusion The use of Xiangju capsule in the treatment of AR complicated with AH can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms related to rhinitis and glandular conditions in children,reduce the inflammatory response of nasal mucosal,improve sleep quality,and demonstrate good safety.
