Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and underlying mechanisms of modified Shengmai Powder combined with hydroxychloroquine sulfate in patients with Sjögren's syndrome(SS)of Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome. Methods A total of 86 patients with SS of Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome admitted to Jiaozuo People's Hospital from January 2023 to June 2024 were enrolled and divided into two groups by random number table method. The control group(n=43)re-ceived hydroxychloroquine sulfate alone, while the combination group(n=43)received modified Shengmai Powder on the basis of hydroxychloroquine sulfate. The course of treatment was 12 weeks.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome scores, disease activity indices, immunological parameters,salivary/tear secretion function, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of the combined group was higher than that of the control group(88.37%vs 67.44%,χ2=5.472,P=0.019).After treatment,TCM syndrome score,European League Against Rheu-matism(EULAR)Sjögren's syndrome Disease Activity Index(ESSDAI),and EULAR SS Patient Reported Index(ESSPRI)were significantly lower in the combination group((16.95±4.86)points,(1.08±0.37)points,and(1.46±0.48)points,respective-ly)than those in the control group((25.21±6.15)points,(2.23±0.61)points,and(2.35±0.51)points)(t=6.910,10.570,8.333,all P<0.05).After treatment, the salivary flow rate and tear secretion in the combination group((2.14±0.52)mL/min and(13.56±2.87)mm/5 min)were higher than those in the control group((1.65±0.40)mL/min and(11.25±2.64)mm/5 min)(t=4.898,3.884,both P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of IgG,IgA,C-reactive protein, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in the combination group((8.21±1.95)g/L,(3.94±1.08)g/L,(1.19±0.33)mg/L,and(18.23±7.95)mm/h)were lower than those in the control group((13.87±3.56)g/L,(4.56±1.30)g/L,(1.67±0.31)mg/L,and(24.69±6.81)mm/h)(t=9.143,2.406,6.952,4.047,all P<0.05).The inci-dence of adverse reactions in the combined group and the control group was 6.98%(3/43)and 11.63%(5/43),respectively,with no significant difference(χ2=0.138,P=0.710).Conclusion The combination of modified Shengmai Powder and hydroxychloroquine sulfate can effectively improve the clinical symptoms and immune inflammatory responses in patients with SS of Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome, demonstrating superior efficacy compared to hydroxychloroquine monotherapy and favorable safety.
