Efficacy of Bufei Huoxue capsule in the treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract：Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Bufei Huoxue capsule in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmo-nary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 120 patients with COPD who were treated at Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2023 to June 2024 were selected and divided into a combined group and a control group using a random number table method,with 60 cases in each group.The control group received standard treatment com-bined with salmeterol/fluticasone propionate powder for inhalation and tiotropium bromide powder for inhalation,while the com-bined group was additionally received Bufei Huoxue capsule.The treatment course for both groups was 3 months.The pulmonary function,inflammatory factor levels and modified British Medical Research Council(BMRC)Respiratory Questionnaire scores of patients before and after 3 months of treatment were compared between the combined group and the control group.The clinical effi-cacy and the incidence of adverse reactions in the combined group and the control group were evaluated.Results The combined group exhibited a total effective rate of 95.00%(57/60),significantly higher than that of the control group(78.33%(47/60))(χ2=7.212,P<0.05).After three months of treatment,maximum expiratory flow rate,forced expiratory volume in the first second(FEV1),and forced vital capacity(FVC)in the combined group((74.85±6.76)L·min-1,(2.53±0.57)L,(2.92±0.87)L,respectively)were higher than those in the control group((69.02±6.54)L·min-1,(2.02±0.47)L,(2.34±0.65)L)(t=4.801,5.347,4.137,all P<0.05).After three months of treatment,the modified BMRC Respiratory Questionnaire and the levels of C-reactive protein,interleukin-8,and tumor necrosis factor α in the combined group((1.87±0.93)points,(8.76±1.87)mg·L-1,(10.79±2.54)ng·L-1 and(21.53±4.84)ng·L-1,re-spectively)were all lower than those in the control group((2.59±1.06)points,(13.32±2.45)mg·L-1,(16.07±3.73)ng·L-1,and(26.39±4.71)ng·L-1,respectively)(t=3.955,11.209,9.063,5.574,all P<0.05).There was no difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the combined group and the control group(16.67%(10/60)vs 11.67%(7/60))(χ2=0.617,P=0.432).Conclusion The clinical efficacy of Bufei Huoxue capsule in the treatment of COPD is significant,which can effectively improve the symptoms of dysnea and lung function,reduce the inflammatory responses of patients,and has good safety.
