Effect of Shugan Jieyu capsule combined with aripiprazole and olanzapine on treatment of patients with schizophrenia

Abstract：Objective To observe the effect of Shugan Jieyu capsule combined with aripiprazole and olanzapine on treatment of patients with schizophrenia and analyze the association with the changes of neurotrophic factors.Methods A total of 187 patients with schizophrenia who were admitted to Kailuan Mental Health Center from January 2021 to May 2022 were randomly divided into the control group(93 cases,aripiprazole and olanzapine treatment)and the study group(94 cases,aripiprazole and olanzapine treatment combined with Shugan Jieyu capsule).The therapeutic effects of the two groups were analyzed,and the changes of cognitive function(Chinese revised version of the Wechsler Memory Scale,WMS-RC),positive symptoms,negative symptoms,general psychopathology symptom rating scale(PANSS)scores and neurotrophic factors were observed and compared between the two groups before and after the treatment.The incidence rates of adverse reactions were documented in both groups.Results The total effective rate of the control group was 88.17% (82/93),remarkably lower than(97.87%,92/94)of the study group(χ2=6.800,P<0.05).The study also involved a comparative analysis of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),neurotrophic factor 3(NT-3),nerve growth factor(NGF)lev-els,PANSS and WMS-RC scores of patients in both groups,which revealed no statistically significant differences(P>0.05).Following the conclusion of the treatment period,a significant increase in the serum levels of BDNF,NT-3,and NGF was observed in the study group((16.34±2.25)μg·L-1,(168.94±22.37)pg·mL-1,(51.36±8.13)pg·mL-1)when compared to the control group((12.03±1.97)μg·L-1,(147.37±20.12)pg·mL-1,(40.77±8.02)pg·mL-1),and there were statistically significant differences(t=13.931,6.930,8.966,all P<0.05).The study group demonstrated significantly lower PANSS scores[(50.20±7.39)points vs(66.28±7.88)points]and higher WMS-RC scores[(88.91±6.60)points vs(68.05±6.18)points]than the control group(t=14.395,22.304,both P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the study group(2.13%,2/94)and the control group(8.60%,8/93)(χ2=2.689,P>0.05).Conclusion Shugan Jieyu capsule combined with aripiprazole and olanzapine has obvious effect on treat-ment of schizophrenia patients,which can effectively improve the level of neurotrophic factors and enhance therapeutic effect without increase in adverse reactions.
