Abstract:Objective To analyze significance of peripheral blood eosinophils (EOS) in patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) before and after treatment with budesonide,a glycopyrronium bromide and formo-terol fumarate inhalation aerosol. Methods A total of 84 patients with moderate to severe COPD admitted to Wenzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from May 2023 to May 2024 were enrolled in this study. All the 84 patients were treated with budesonide for 10 days. After treatment, curative effect, scores of COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) were evaluated. The levels of peripheral blood EOS,interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients with different curative effect were compared before and after treatment. The correlation of EOS,IL-6,CRP levels with CAT,SGRQ scores was analyzed by Pearson analysis. Results In the 84 patients, there were 42 with significant effectiveness,36 with effectiveness and 6 with ineffectiveness, with a total response rate of 92.86% (78/84). After treatment,SGRQ and CAT scores were significantly decreased (P<0.05),and levels of peripheral blood EOS,IL-6 and CRP were also significantly decreased (P<0.05). The levels of EOS,IL-6 and CRP in patients with significant effectiveness and those with effectiveness were (3.16±0.32)%,(14.63±1.56) ng·L-1,(24.33±2.51) mg·L-1 and (3.34±0.37)%,(15.47±1.61) ng·L-1,(24.97±2.57) mg·L-1,which were significantly lower than those in patients with ineffectiveness ((7.41±0.77)%,(24.29±2.51) ng·L-1,(38.55±3.96) mg·L-1),and the difference was statistically significant (F=329.864,89.881,77.056,all P<0.05). The levels of EOS,IL-6 and CRP in peripheral blood were positively correlated with SGRQ score (r=0.702,0.433,0.589) and CAT score (r=0.854,0.558,0.631),and the difference was statistically significant (all P<0.05). Conclusion Peripheral blood EOS,IL-6,and CRP levels decrease significantly after treatment in patients with moderate to severe COPD. The changes in their levels affect the patient's efficacy and are closely related to SGRQ and CAT scores.
