One case of mental disorders induced by montelukast sodium

Abstract:One 65-year-old male patient was hospitalized due to continuous severe cough with phlegm for 1 month. The patient has a medical history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for 20 years and was considered as acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease this time. The patient was given montelukast sodium 10 mg every night for cough on the 5thday after admission. Two days later, the patient developed obvious limbs tremor and had foot hyperactivity. Mental disorders induced by montelukast sodium was considered and montelukast sodium was stopped immediately. Three years ago, the patient had been given montelukast sodium and developed limbs tremor and nightmare 1 week later. According to the standard of adverse drug reaction reporting and monitoring methods, the clinical pharmacist considered that the relevance between montelukast sodium and the mental system disorder was definite. The symptoms of mental disorder was improved after the withdrawal. And the pateint was discharged 5 days later without any mental disorders.
