Analysis of off-label drug uses in adverse drug events of our hospital

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the situation of off-label drug use in adverse drug event (ADE), and provide references for rational drug use in clinic. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 1008 cases of ADE reported in our hospital from January 2010 to June 2017, and the situation of off-label drug use was analyzed. Results: In the 1008 ADE reports, 228 reports involved off-label drug use (22.62%), including 95 cases of utilization of Chinese patent drug, 62 cases of antibacterials, 71 cases of other drugs. The main types included no-indication medication, overdose, over the normal routes of administration, and so on. Incidence of no-indication medication was the highest (P < 0.05). Conclusion: It is important to tighten monitoring on the off-label drug uses for promoting clinical rational drug uses.
