Summary analysis of myasthenia gravis induced/aggravated by quinolones

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the clinical features, the causes of myasthenia gravis (MG) induced/aggravated by quinolones and provide the therapeutic measures. Methods: The case reports of quinolones induced/aggravated MG were collected from medical literature in domestic and abroad from 1988 to 2016 by searching CNKI, VIP and PubMed databases. The data were analyzed in respect of the distribution of patients' age, the dosage and administration of quinolones, clinical features, consequence and prognosis. Results: There were 13 case reports referring to 31 patients suffered MG induced by quinolones. They comprised 17 men and 14 women with average age of (31.00 ± 19.40). The main syndromes included dyspnea (21.88%), weakness of limbs (21.88%), ptosis (20.39%). The syndromes of the patients were improved by the withdrawal of quinolones, the average clinical scores of quantitive MG (QMG) were (4.07 ± 5.04). While the average QMG scores were (14.94 ± 1.81) (P < 0.05), when the initial stage of quinolones-inducing myasthenia gravis. Conclusion: Quinolones can induce/aggravate myasthenia gravis, which should be vigilant in clinic.
