Analysis of the clinical application of imipenem and cilastatin sodium in surgical department

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the efficacy, safety and rationality of imipenem and cilastatin sodium used in surgical department of our hospital. Methods: The medical records of the patients received the medicine between January 2016 and June 2016 in surgical department were screened, and 168 cases were enrolled for retrospective analysis. The data were analyzed in respect of the indications, usage and dosage, pathogenic examination, drug combination, adverse drug reactions and so on. Results: The patients were mainly distributed in department of general surgery and urological surgery. The main purpose of administration was anti-infection after surgery. The average time of drug administration was (6.1 ± 4.9) days. The microbial inspection rate was 64.9%. And the specific pathogens were detected in 55 cases. The total effective rate was 86.9%. However, there were still some defects in several cases, such as the selection and the dose of antibiotics. Conclusion: The clinical use of imipenem and cilastatin sodium is basically proper in this hospital. Pharmacists should enhance the communication with physicians about the existing problems in order to ensure the rational use of antibiotics.
