Application of quality control circles on reducing waiting time of dispensing during peak periods

Abstract:Objective: To reduce the waiting time of dispensing in the outpatient pharmacy during peak periods. Methods: The quality control circle (QCC) was used in the outpatient pharmacy. Through subject selection, status investigation, goals setting, factors analysis and real causes verification, members of the QCC got together to draw up and accomplish countermeasures, compared the waiting time needed for dispensing before and after the QCC activity, evaluated the effect of QCC, and then set the standard regular procedures based on the effects. Results: The QCC activity efficiently reduced the waiting time of dispensing during the peak periods, from 15.20 minutes before QCC to 9.41 minutes after QCC activity, the rate of goal achievement was 111.3%. Conclusion: The practice of QCC reduced the waiting time during the peak periods in outpatient pharmacy, optimized the procedures and improved the members' ability of finding, analyzing and solving problems.
