Abstract:Objective: To investigate and analyze the clinical application of simvastatin in outpatients and emergency patients in order to improve rational drug use. Methods: The application of simvastatin in outpatients and emergency patients in July, 2016 was retrospectively analyzed including evaluation of the patient information, department distribution, usage and drug combinations (co-administration of simvastatin with CYP3A4 inhibitors). Results: There were total 1393 outpatients and emergency patients who used simvastatin. The average age was 64.7 years old. There were some inappropriate medication problems in the prescriptions. Four patients used simvastatin with a dosage higher than the maximum recommended dosage in drug direction. A total of 42 patients (3%) were prescribed simvastatin with CYP3A4 inhibitors including amiodarone, diltiazem, warfarin, cyclosporine and clarithromycin. Conclusion: Clinical use of simvastatin in outpatients and emergency prescriptions is basically reasonable in our hospital. Strategies should be taken to avoid co-administration of simvastatin with CYP3A4 inhibitors.
