Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the clinical efifcacy and safety of teicoplanin and vancomycin in the treatment of gram-positive bacterial infections. Methods: By exploring the medical records databases of Chinese PLA General Hospital, the data was collected including the demographic data, underlying diseases, concomitant medication, course of treatment, treatment efficacy, bacterial clearance and adverse reactions of the patients who received teicoplanin or vancomycin in ICU and RICU wards from January 2012 to April 2016, the efifcacy and safety were compared by SPSS 17.0.Results: The efifcacy rate and bacterial clearance rate in teicoplanin group were 32.3% and 29.6%, respectively. There was no statistical signiifcance when compared with vancomycin group (clinical efifcacy rate and bacterial clearance rate were 38.7% and 44.0% respectively). While, teicoplanin had an advantage of low incidence of adverse reactions with statistical signiifcance (P < 0.05). There was no statistical signiifcance on the clinical efifcacy and bacterial clearance rate between elderly patients and younger patients in both groups, while the incidence of adverse reactions was higher in elderly patients. Conclusion:The efifcacy of treating gram-positive bacterial infections by teicoplanin was equivalent with vancomycin, while under the same conditions teicoplanin was safer than vancomycin.
