Pharmaceutical care on a patient with pulmonary infection by Acinetobacter baumannii

Abstract:One 66-year-old male patient was admitted to hospital due to a trafifc accident. After surgery, the patient got extensively drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii pulmonary infection. Clinical pharmacists evaluated the anti-infective treatment programs, adjusted anti-infective drugs to minocycline capsules and cefoperazone sulbactam, which improved the symptoms of patient. After 2-day treatment, the patient got headache and palpitations, the symptoms disappeared after drug withdrawal, so the symptoms were considered as adverse drug reactions of isosorbide mononitrate. The patient had antibiotic-associated diarrhea on the 16th day, and improved after anti-infective drugs withdrawal and regulation of intestinal lfora during the treatment. Pharmacists assisted the physicians in the assessment of anti-infective treatment, took pharmaceutical cares on adjusting anti-infective drugs and analyzing the reasons of ADR. After symptomatic treatment, the patient was discharged with an improved condition.
