Application of brain microdialysis in drug monitoring

Abstract：Brain microdialysis is a living and minimally invasive sampling technique, which has many advantages, such as multi-sites, real-time sampling and on-line analysis. Nowadays, more and more researchers focus on its application in the study of drug disposition in the brain. Microdialysis is a promising method for monitoring concentrations of the drugs in the brain, and may provide a scientiifc basis in drug research and development and clinically rational use of drugs. In the research of brain drug delivery system, microdialysis has a wide range of application prospect, especially for pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics research. In this article, we reviewed the characteristics and development of brain microdialysis, introduced the progress of this technique in drug monitoring, and the application in laboratory animals and patients in clinic.
