Abstract:[ABSTRACT]Objective:To provide the evidence on rational use of drugs for elderly patients by evaluating the utilization of antibacterial agents. Methods:A total of 1514 antibacterial outpatient prescriptions of elderly patients were collected from January to December in 2013 of our center. The varieties of antibacterials were analyzed by DDDs and drug utilization index (DUI). Results: The DUI of 20 kinds of antibacterials used in outpatient were in the range of 0.32 – 1.42. The top 3 antibacterials in terms of DDDs were cephalosporins, quinolones and macrolides, and the drugs were cefuroxime axetil, levolfoxacin (oral preparation) and cefuroxime sodium(injection preparation). The usage proportion in female patients was higher than that of male patients, accounting for 64.07%, the age of the patients was mainly 91 – 95 years. Conclusion:The application of antibacterials was basically rational for elderly patients in our center, but the irrational uses of drugs were observed such as high constituent ratio and the high dosage use of antibacterials injection, which should be supervised in clinic.
