Literature analysis on 35 cases of carbamazepine-induced drug eruption

Abstract:Objective:To study the clinical characteristics of drug eruption caused by carbamazepine, and provide reference for rational drug use. Methods:The CNKI, CBM, PubMed, Medline, Embase, VIP databases were searched for collecting literature about carbamazepine-induced drug eruption. The literature were analyzed statistically in respect of patients' gender, age, primary disease, allergic history, drug use and clinical manifestations of drug eruption. Results: A total of 35 cases of carbamazepine-induced drug eruption were collected. All the drug eruptions were serious, including 18 cases of severe erythema multiforme, 9 cases of toxic epidermal necrolysis, and 8 cases of exfoliative dermatitis. Conclusion:The average latent period of carbamazepine-induced drug eruption was approximately 2 weeks. Most of the patients developed severe drug eruptions in a short term. The skin lesions can be improved or cured by timely withdrawal of the drug and using sufifcient dose of glucocorticoids.
