Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between triglyceride-glucose index(TyG)and carotid atherosclerosis(CAS)in hypertensive population. Methods The individuals diagnosed with hypertension were retrospectively enrolled from Zhangjiakou First Hospital from Sep.1,2022 to Oct.1,2023.The baseline data were collected and CAS occurrence was observed including carotid plaques and thickening of carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT).The individuals were divided into CAS group(group A,n=495)and non-CAS group(group B,n=543).The correlation between TyG and CAS was analyzed and reviewed by using multi-factor Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline(RCS).The diagnostic efficiency of TyG to CAS was reviewed by using receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve. Results There were totally 1038 hypertensive individuals included with CAS incidence of 47.7%(495/1038).TyG was significantly higher in group A(8.9±0.5)than that in group B(8.6±0.5,P<0.001).The results of multi-factor Logistic regression analysis showed that TyG was an independent risk factor for CAS(OR=3.234,95%CI:2.228~4.750,P<0.001),meanwhile it was independent risk factors for carotid plaques(OR=1.489,95%CI:1.016~2.184,P=0.041)and CIMT thickening(OR=2.837,95%CI:1.891~4.300,P<0.001).The results of RCS analysis showed that TyG was significantly correlated to CAS and carotid plaques(P<0.001).The results of ROC curve analysis showed that predictive efficiency of TyG was higher than that of triglyceride or fasting plasma glucose alone(De-long test P=0.042,P=0.013).Conclusion TyG is an independent risk factor for CAS in hypertensive individuals, and correlation between TyG and CAS is higher that of any single traditional risk factor.
