Effect of Guanxin Shutong Capsule on coronary heart disease complicated with carotid atherosclerosis and its effect on inflammation

Abstract：Objective To observe the curative effect and effect of Guanxin Shutong Capsule on patients with coronary heart disease complicated with carotid atherosclerosis. Methods A total of 154 patients with coronary heart disease and carotid atherosclerosis admitted from February 2015 to December 2017 were randomly divided into control group and observation group, 77 cases each. For routine treatment, the observation group was given Guanxin Shutong Capsule for 3 months as a course of treatment. Carotid ultrasound was performed to detect the levels of inflammatory factors, blood lipids, and blood rheology indicators, and adverse reactions were recorded. Results After treatment, carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), number of plaques, plaque area, plaque Crouse score, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), positive pentameric protein (PTX-3), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), blood lipid levels and hemorheological parameters were significantly improved compared with before treatment (P<0.05). And the observation group compared with the control group IMT, plaque number, plaque area, plaque Crouse score, hs-CRP, PTX-3, cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein (LDL- C), whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity are significantly reduced. High-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) was significantly elevated (P<0.05), and the other indicators were similar. Conclusion Guanxin Shutong Capsule is safe and effective in the treatment of coronary heart disease complicated with carotid atherosclerosis. The mechanism is related to reducing inflammation and improving blood lipid and blood rheology.
