Correlation between glycated hemoglobin and arrhythmia in diabetic patients

Abstract:Objective To study the correlation between glycated hemoglobin (HbAlc) and arrhythmia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods T2DM patients (n=128) were chosen from the First People’s Hospital of Wujiang District of Suzhou City from July 2016 to June 2017. All patients were divided, according to HbA1c level, into group I (HbA1c≥7.0%, n=40) and group II (HbA1c<7.0%, n=88). The baseline data and incidence of arrhythmia were analyzed and given multiple Logistic regression analysis. Results The difference in disease course, triglyceride (TG), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), HbA1c and homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance index (HOMA-1R) had statistical significance between 2 groups (P<0.05). The total incidence of arrhythmia, and incidence of supraventricular arrhythmia, ventricular arrhythmias and conduction block were significantly higher in group I than those in group II (P<0.01). The results of multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that HbA1C was positively correlated to occurrence of arrhythmia (OR=2.547, P<0.001), and diabetic course, TG and HOMA-1R were independent risk factors of arrhythmia (P<0.05). Conclusion HbAlc is correlated to occurrence of arrhythmia in patients with T2DM.
