Abstract:Objective To study the relieving effect of psycho-cardiologic nursing on depression levels in elderly patients after permanent pacemaker implantation (PPM) for 3 months. Methods The elderly patients (n=132) undergone PPM were chosen from Department of Cardiology of Beijing Anzhen Hospital from Aug. 2015 to Aug. 2017, and divided randomly into psycho-cardiologic nursing group and routine nursing group (each n=66). The routine nursing group was given standard nursing and psycho-cardiologic nursing group was given routing nursing and psycho-cardiologic nursing. All patients were followed up for 6 times within 3 months after PPM, and given review on depression levels by using Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (Zung SDS) before and 3 months after PPM. The review scores were compared between 2 groups. Results The percentage of depression patients was similar in 2 groups before PPM [24 (36.4%) vs. 22 (33.3%), P>0.05]. The scores of Zung SDS had no significant difference between 2 groups before PPM (45.54±8.43 vs. 45.78±9.2, P>0.05). After PPM for 3 months, there were 23 (34.8%) depression cases in routine nursing group and 13 (19.7%) in psycho-cardiologic nursing group (P<0.05). The difference in Zung SDS scores was significant between 2 groups after PPM for 3 months [(39.45±8.76) vs. (31.25±8.23), P<0.05]. The depression level was mainly severe in routine nursing group and moderate in psycho-cardiologic nursing group. Conclusion PPM can induce depression commonly in elderly patients before and after the procedure, and psycho-cardiologic nursing can reduce the incidence of postoperative depression.
