Abstract:Objective To investigate the association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and coronary collateral circulation (CCC) formation in patients with severe coronary stenosis. Methods From June 2015 to September 2017, a total of 182 patients with severe coronary stenosis (defined as a stenosis of ≥95% in at least one major coronary vessel) who admitted at the General Hospital of the Yangtze River Shipping were included. The diagnosis of NAFLD was based on the Guidelines for Management of NAFLD (revised edition in 2010). Moreover, according to the Rentrop grades, the patients were divided into poor (Rentrop grades 0~Ⅰ; n=85) and good (Rentrop grades Ⅱ~Ⅲ; n=97) CCC groups. Results The prevalence of NAFLD in poor CCC group was 47.1%, which was significantly higher than that in the good CCC group (24.7%; P<0.01). The prevalence of NAFLD was also gradually decreased along with the elevated Rentrop grade (P<0.01). Multivariate logistic regression indicated that NAFLD (OR=2.13, 95%CI: 1.20~3.77; P<0.01), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (OR=1.61, 95% CI: 1.02-2.54; P<0.05), Gensini score (OR=0.83, 95%CI: 0.72~0.95; P<0.01), and severe stenosis in right coronary artery (OR=0.70, 95%CI: 0.50~0.98; P<0.05) were independent predictors for impaired CCC. Conclusion In patients with severe coronary stenosis, NAFLD is an important factor that affects the development of CCC.
