Abstract:Objective To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of " Balloon Compression" technology in the treatment of chronic total occlusions (CTO). Methods 41 patients with CTO lesions admitted from April 2013 to May 2017 were enrolled and randomly divided into treatment group (n=19) and conventional group (n=22). General clinical data, radiation exposure, material consumption, the failure rates of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), complications and major adverse cardiac events were compared between two groups. Results There was no significant difference of the general clinical characteristics and angiographic features between two groups (P>0.05). Compared to conventional group, radiation exposure [(33.6±4.9) min vs. (42.4±8.2) min], material consumption [(174.8±15.6) ml vs. (196.0±11.6) ml] were fewer in treatment group (P<0.05). The failure rates of PCI [ 1(5.3%) vs. 6(27.3%)] was lower in treatment group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference of complications [ 2(10.5%) vs. 1(4.5%)] and major adverse cardiac events [3(15.8%) vs. 1(4.5%)] between two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions "Balloon Compression" technology have lowered failure rates of PCI, lower radiation exposure and material consumption in the treatment of CTO lesions, without increasing complications and major adverse cardiac events significantly. "Balloon Compression" technology is efficient and feasible in PCI of CTO.
