Survey on cardiovascular risk factors in medical staff of jiangxi province

Abstract:Objective To survey and analyze cardiovascular risk factors in medical staff, and get a comprehensive understand on distribution of these factors to finally achieve targeted prevention. Methods By using cluster sampling method, all on-post staff (n=1600, male 560, female 1040, aged from 23 to 60 and average age=44.5±8.7) received physical examination and with complete data including doctors (n=532), nurses (n=780), medical technicians (n=190) and administrative staff (n=98) were chosen from the People's Hospital of Yixing City of Jiangsu Province in 2016. The staff was divided, according to age, into age<50 group (n=1179) and age≥50 group (n=421), and divided, according to sex, into male group (n=560) and female group (n=1040). The questionnaire was a self-designed one combined with relevant literature, and assisted by medical staff in the Physical Examination Center of the People's Hospital of Yixing City to accomplish by using multi-choice method and direct questioning method. The data of physical examination was collected from all participants including height, weight, blood pressure (BP), blood sugar and blood fat. Results Among 1600 participants, there were 987 (61.7%) cases with high pressure, 984 (61.5%) without enough exercises, 289 (18.1%) with abnormal glucose metabolism, 480 (30.0%) with obesity, 321 (20.1%) with hypertension, 387 (24.2%) with dyslipidemia, 246 (15.4%) with smoking, and 154 (9.6%) with cardiovascular disease history. The percentages of cases with hypertension, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease history were higher in age≥50 group than those in age<50 group, and percentages of cases with obesity, abnormal glucose metabolism and high pressure were lower in age≥50 group than those in age<50 group (all P<0.05). The percentages of cases with smoking and high pressure were higher, and percentage of cases without enough exercises was lower in male group than those in female group (all P<0.05). Conclusion Medical staff should pay more attention to their health, alleviate job stress, abandon smoking, and have more sports and timely check-up to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases.
