Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) detected by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and senile coronary heart disease (CHD). Methods The patients (n=148) with suspected CHD detected by coronary angiography (CAG) were chosen from the First People's Hospital of Jingmen City from May 2015 to May 2016, and they were divided, according to the results of CAG, into CHD group (n=92) and non-CHD group (n=56). EAT was detected by using TTE, and difference in clinical materials and EAT was compared between 2 groups. The correlation between EAT and senile CHD was analyzed by using Logistic regression model. Results The difference in age, sex and other baseline materials had no statistical significance between 2 groups (P>0.05). The difference in percentages of patients with hypertension and diabetes, and levels of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) had statistical significance between 2 groups (P<0.05). EAT was (5.18±1.23) mm in CHD group and (3.43±1.13) mm in non-CHD group (P=0.003). The mean Gensini integral, CAG integral≥20 and CAG integral≥50 were increased along with EAT increased in different EAT groups, and difference among groups had statistical significance (P<0.05). The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that EAT was an independent risk factor of CHD (OR=1.64, 95%CI: 1.36~2.09). Conclusion EAT detected by TTE is correlated to onset and development of senile CHD, and it can be taken as an effective index for predicting and reviewing senile CHD.
