Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between changes of body weight and dyslipidemia in rural population of Shijingshan District of Beijing. Methods A survey on risk factors of cardiovascular disease (CVD) was conducted in rural population (aged from 35 to 59) taking part in the National Scientific Key Project of the Ninth Five-Year Plan from Beijing Shijingshan District, and their body weights when they were 25 years old were investigated. All subjects were divided, according to the difference between their weights measured in this survey and those when they were 25 years old, into weight<-2.5 kg group, weight=-2.5 kg~2.5 kg group, weight=2.6 kg~7.5 kg group, weight=7.6 kg~12.5 kg group and weight>12.5 kg group. If the subjects had one of hypercholesteremia, hypertriglyceridemia or low level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), they were diagnosed as patients with dyslipidemia. The relationship between long-term changes of body weight after 25 years old and dyslipidemia in middle-aged period was discussed. Results There were totally 1015 subjects included in the analysis. The incidence of dyslipidemia was 26.92% in weight<-2.5 kg group, 32.05% in weight=-2.5 kg~2.5 kg group, 29.53% in weight=2.6 kg~7.5 kg group, 39.91% in weight=7.6 kg~12.5 kg group and 58.08% in weight>12.5 kg group, and the incidence of dyslipidemia showed a significant ascending trend (P<0.0001). The results of multi-factor Logistic regression analysis showed that long-term weight increase was an independent risk factor of dyslipidemia after correcting age, sex, educational background, smoking, drinking and body mass index at age of 25. Compared with weight=-2.5 kg~2.5 kg group, body weight increase improved the risk of dyslipidemia in weight=7.6 kg~12.5 kg group (OR=1.86, 95%CI: 1.18~2.94) and weight>12.5 kg group (OR=4.28, 95%CI: 2.78~6.60).Conclusion The increase of body weight after 25 years old is independently correlated to dyslipidemia in middle-aged period.
